Healthcare

Beca's experience in healthcare design helps us to deliver advanced structures and services.

Health.

There is an increasing reliance on technology for health outcomes and the provision of health services. The healthcare environment represents one of the most sophisticated and technically complex engineering challenges. It is an area where engineers have a major influence on the quality and performance of the completed facilities.

Beca's ten years experience and understanding of the specialist requirements of healthcare design aims to deliver structures and services capable of introducing these advances without major building modifications.

Beca has been involved in several major health projects throughout New Zealand, from assistance with Master planning and business case preparation for Northland, Counties Manukau, Bay of Plenty and Waikato District Health Boards (totalling over $500 million) to design and consulting services for hospitals in Manukau, Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Nelson and Tauranga. Cumulatively these projects have a value well over $1 billion. Beca has also provided services to the private sector through working on six Southern Cross sites around New Zealand as well as a new development for Braemar Hospital in Hamilton.

We are conscious of the capital cost and typical design longevity of healthcare facilities. As a result we strive to help our clients understand the long-term effects of design decisions and apply continuous value engineering with reviews at each crucial design milestone. Inclusive decision-making is fundamental to our approach. This enables stakeholders and/or user groups to understand and buy into the design as it progresses.

Healthcare technologies are developing rapidly and recent experience is vital to make best use of latest design information and clinical needs. Typically, buildings remain occupied during upgrades and modifications and Beca has been instrumental in developing standards in design, construction and programme management in New Zealand.
