Doing project work on many airports, roading and civil infrastructure developments in New Zealand and internationally, Brent has amassed a wealth of experience in civil engineering.
Brent joined Beca nearly 30 years ago and, since 1999, has been General Manager of Civil Infrastructure. In this role, his responsibilities range from project leadership to strategic direction, being accountable for financial and physical performance of the civil infrastructure division and assisting other general managers.
Two exciting projects that Brent particularly enjoyed were the contrasting Matak Airstrip and Grafton Gully developments.
Requiring three plane trips to access, the Matak Airstrip is located in the middle of the South China Sea. Although this was Brent’s first involvement in airport design work, it proved to be no limitation as the Indonesian client praised his team’s technical proposal as the best they had ever seen.
Closer to home, the Grafton Gully project was not only personally meaningful, as it is a site Brent drives through on his daily commute - it has had great significance for Beca, as this project launched the very first New Zealand Transport Agency alliance team.
Brent highlights that the strengths of Beca employees are not only in their technical skills but also in the interplay of personalities. “We have quality engineers who are genuinely committed to building long term relationships”, he says.
