Dunedin

The growing Dunedin office is now 13 people strong and has a strong civil, environmental and surveying focus.

Beca's Dunedin office.

Some of the key projects currently being undertaken are: work for the Dunedin City Council at Tahuna Wastewater Treatment Plant, work for New Zealand Transport Agency including a significant realignment of SH1, work at Dunedin International Airport, providing assistance to L&M Mining Ltd for exercising a suite of resource consents for alluvial gold at Earnscleugh near Alexandra, environmental work for local authorities and private sector clients including water catchment management plans, and survey work at the new Forsyth Barr Stadium.

The size of the office, which is located in central Dunedin, means its atmosphere is relaxed and collaborative – team members get to know each other socially and communication about current projects is free flowing. This office culture means it’s easy to ask questions and get informal coaching and mentoring on a day-to-day basis if you need it. Although the office itself is relatively small, Beca people based in Dunedin have the opportunity to work on projects from other offices, primarily Christchurch and others around the country.

The team socialises together and has developed a formal social club that has been running for a couple of years. Recent events have included bowling, quiz nights, a tour of the local Speights brewery, a bus trip and end of month drinks.

Dunedin is situated in an area of spectacular beauty and has a reputation as one of the best-preserved Victorian and Edwardian cities in the Southern Hemisphere. It’s close to great mountain biking, wineries, wildlife, skiing and snowboarding, enjoys a unique creative ambience fostered by a vibrant fashion and creative arts community, has an excellent café culture and, of course, is influenced by the university-town atmosphere! Being a smaller city it also has the advantage of minimal traffic – bringing benefits to your lifestyle from much reduced travel times!
