Water and Wastes

Beca has substantial experience in the water and wastes market, and has been closely involved with many significant projects in the industry.

Water and Wastes.

Every country is facing demand pressures on their natural fresh and marine waters – and grappling with the need for new and renewed infrastructure to deliver water to consumers and to collect and dispose of municipal and industrial wastes.

With the exception of Australia, the Asia Pacific Region has traditionally been seen as a relatively water rich region. However, the reality is quite different and "Peak Water" is now talked about in much the same way that "Peak Oil" has been in recent decades, indicating that the region's demands on the water environment may have gone beyond long-term sustainable levels.

Beca has provided design services and strategic advice to water/wastewater utilities in the Asia Pacific region for over 30 years. Our expertise has grown from water and wastewater reticulation and pipeline projects to include a number of specialists who can conduct the full range of water/wastewater and environmental engineering.

Beca designs intakes, pump stations and water treatment plants and has also been involved in optimisation modelling of distribution/collection networks, long-term strategic development plans, wastewater treatment and ultimate disposal river and ocean outfalls or land disposal schemes. This includes several modern treatment plants with large-scale membrane filtration installations for both water and wastewater and nutrient removal technology.

We have developed specialised technology which assists us in seeking solutions for our clients; including providing environmental and geotechnical laboratory services for water, wastewater and solids analysis .

We are frequently engaged by clients wanting advice on their long-term development plans. This is particularly important as our clients analyse their existing water and wastewater infrastructural assets and then develop strategic plans and funding programmes for their replacement, upgrading or renewal. As an alternative to renewing assets, clients often wish to maximise the use of existing assets at lower cost, and we assist them by advising on opportunities to enhance existing operations in their networks or at their treatment plants.
