John is a Beca Technical Director and General Manager overseeing our Airports and Geotechnical teams. John's special competencies include airport pavement evaluation and rehabilitation, airport infrastructure development and design, airside construction staging, heavy-duty pavement design, foundation design and geotechnical issues. John is a recognised expert in airfield concrete pavement materials.
An important contributor to New Zealand's airport sector, John is a Board Member of the New Zealand Airports Association as well as a member of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand.
John provides strategic airport asset management advice to a number of airport clients across Australasia. Since the late 1990s, John has provided extensive strategic and detailed airfield pavement advice to Auckland Airport, contributing significantly to the landmark Northern Runway. Other significant project work includes the milestone A380 runway widening and conversion projects at both Melbourne and Auckland Airports. He is currently the lead verifier for the new A380 Apron and Taxiway Works at Brisbane Airport.
John feels the wide scope and varied nature of project work Beca is able to provide is a perfect training ground for young engineers and for those wanting to develop their skills in other areas.
