"I aim to balance the Beca design process with an ability to remain fluid and adaptable. I believe in a disciplined approach so that challenges are addressed early on in the project."
Samir has been with Beca since he graduated from the University of Auckland in 1996 with a Masters in Engineering.
He moved to Christchurch in 2004 to set up a new structural engineering practice in the South Island. Some of the challenges he faced included limited market contact and little knowledge of the city and region. Fortunately, people who are willing to move into new markets and create a new business are "gold" in Beca, so there is always strong management support. However, it is very much up to the individual to make the enterprise work.
Four years later, Samir has become a key player in the Canterbury consulting engineering community, leading a team of 20. He is currently a Technical Director in addition to managing the Christchurch structural business unit.
Key projects Samir has been involved in include the Macau Tower, Auckland University of Technology Business School, Northlands Shopping Centre in Christchurch, Wigram Hostel Redevelopment, ICT Innovation Institute at the University of Canterbury and the Christchurch South Police Station.
Samir has been recognised externally for his passion for building and his solid work ethics by winning the Telecom/ACENZ Future Leader Awards 2007 and the NZIOB Progressive Building Young Achiever of the Year 2007. He is also president and board member of the NZIOB Southern Chapter, a member of the NZIOB National Council and has been recently co-opted onto the ACENZ National Board.
