“Project management calls for a healthy balance of technical understanding, design and construction experience combined with softer skills like facilitation, communication, problem solving, leadership and honesty.”
A civil engineer by trade, Gavin has moved through site based roles, design office placements and business development positions before cementing himself in the role of Operations Manager for Beca’s Project and Cost Management business throughout New Zealand.
Gavin first joined Beca as a geotechnical engineer before a four year period in the UK working for Ove Arup & Partners and Asite Solutions Limited. He returned to New Zealand and rejoined Beca as a Project Manager in Auckland in 2004.
During his time working as a civil engineer, Gavin was exposed to a lot of project management activities. He began to thrive more on organisational activities than on the design aspects of his role; and this transition allowed him to easily transfer his geotechnical and civil skills to the project management discipline.
Gavin counts Air New Zealand’s Head Office building on Fanshawe St, various apartment developments and leading the Auckland based project management team as recent highlights in his project management career. He enjoys the challenges of building and working with cohesive project teams to deliver design and construction outcomes on behalf of the client.
Gavin particularly relishes the challenge of finding the right solution for the unique needs of each client by leveraging off the experiences of many skilled Beca people.
