Alan is passionate about improving the environmental performance and user affinity to the built environment, and wants to provide appropriate designs for clients using a 'total building' sustainable design approach. His understanding of the performance and value drivers of integrated building and environmental systems design helps target successful outcomes for all project stakeholders.
As Technical Director in the Christchurch office, Alan leads Beca's Green Buildings activities in Australasia. Alan has over 18 years' experience in the design and delivery of building projects, implementing sustainable briefing objectives and green designs and technologies for projects in the UK, Asia and New Zealand.
Since joining Beca in 2003, Alan has led the environmental engineering for a number of green building projects in New Zealand including the Meridian Energy Building, Wellington; the Nzi3 ICT Innovation Institute, University of Canterbury; the Canterbury Club Tower and Papamoa Library and Community Centre.
Alan is a UK chartered engineer, and member of CIBSE and ASHRAE. He is also a member of the NZ Green Building Council technical committee, helping to develop the GreenStar rating tools.
