Technical Director / Brisbane

Ian has 20 years experience in power systems engineering and has specialist knowledge in power cables ranging from 11 through to 500kV. His career has included transmission, distribution and power generation projects, where he has provided technical leadership as well as leading multi disciplined teams of engineers.

Ian spent the early part of his career working across Europe and gaining chartered engineer status. In 2003 he took the opportunity to work with Beca in New Zealand and, more recently, in Australia. Relocating has enabled Ian to develop his career in a booming electrical industry which is going through major upgrades, providing different challenges from those in Europe. Working within the smaller industry brings a tighter working network and professional community, which Ian says has significantly contributed to his job satisfaction and has also increased his profile.

During his time with Beca Ian has been involved in a number of interesting projects throughout Australasia including:

• strengthening the power supply network through major upgrades at key substations in the South Island, New Zealand
• working on various wind farm projects from conception through to commissioning, and
• managing major rebuild projects throughout Victoria, Australia.
