“Our commitment is to put our clients first.”

Steve Perkins - Technical Director.

Stephen first joined Beca in 1990 as a graduate from the University of Auckland as a mechanical engineer. For eight years he worked in Beca’s Auckland and Melbourne offices before relocating to Canada to work for an organisation specialising in mechanical building services engineering.

Seeking a change from consulting, Stephen moved to the vice president of engineering role for a district energy company that produces and distributes cooling and heating energy to large buildings in downtown Toronto.

In 2007, Stephen rejoined Beca to work for the Building Services section in Singapore as both a technical director and team leader. A part of this role includes assisting the section head with the project management of up to 20 engineers and draughtsmen.

Stephen enjoys the consultative and inclusive style of engineering design development at Beca. “Input is invited and considered from all Beca team members at all levels of experience,” he says. “This makes you feel that your thoughts and opinions are respected and valued, even if the ideas are not finally used when better alternatives are identified”.

Currently, Stephen is leading a Beca design team for the Resorts World Sentosa project in Singapore, constructing the main retail component of the development called the Festive Walk. Also in this development he is working on the Marine Life Park which will be the world’s largest oceanium, a Maritime Museum and two hotels.

He recently completed the design of the Abu Dhabi Hotel, Office and Marina project in the United Arab Emirates, which included a 60 story commercial office tower.
