Stuart oversees the healthcare market segment from his Auckland base. His technical background centres on building services for retail, office, hotel and mixed use developments, but in the last 10 years he has specialised in multidiscipline delivery of projects in the healthcare sector.
A key turning point in Stuart's career was accepting a Design Manager role for the Auckland City Hospital Building Programme. This was a flagship Beca project as the building was the largest undertaken by the Beca Buildings team at the time. Not only did this provide him with District Health Board experience beyond building services engineering but it also developed client and specialist consultant relationships which still remain active today.
Recognising his healthcare experience, several major New Zealand hospitals and district health boards have engaged Stuart and his buildings team to undertake strategic long term Masterplanning. An interesting project in recent times has been the University of Auckland's Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences campus redevelopment. Stuart was the Beca Project Director for the master planning of the building and fire engineering services which is now being realised through the development valued at over $200M for which Beca are the building services and fire engineers.
