Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort

Marina Bay Sands is an engineering and construction marvel. In particular the Sands SkyPark® is unique, at 340m it is longer than the Eiffel Tower is tall, and is big enough to park four-and-a-half A380 jets.
Marina Bay Sands

Designed by world renowned architect Moshe Safdie, the Marina Bay Sands competition winning design is a striking addition to the Singapore Skyline.

The unique SkyPark is a breathtaking one-hectare rooftop park sitting atop the three 55-storey hotel towers at 200m above the Marina Bay Sands. Dramatically transforming the skyline of Singapore, the SkyPark has beautifully sculptured gardens with over 500 trees and plants, four restaurants, a huge public observation deck forming the world's largest public cantilever at 65m long, and three 50m swimming pools stretching across all three towers providing a stunning 150m long infinity edge overlooking the city. The SkyPark is one striking project within SG$6.8 billion dollar Marina Bay Sands Integrated Resort situated on the downtown Marina Bay waterfront.

Senior project managers from Beca led various projects within this fast track development, and played a key role in moulding the development of the project in the early stages. By implementing change control procedures, managing the design development and facilitation of value engineering efforts the construction to continue at high speed.

The resort also includes the 120,000m2 Sands Expo and Convention Centre, 75,000m2 of retail and dining facilities, a world-class casino, a museum, and two theatres seating 4,000.

The competition winning resort design is packed with unusual features, which demanded rigorous processes to solve the technical design and construction challenges. A key example was managing the heavy lifting process, where 7,000 tonnes of steel were raised in 14 segments to construct the SkyPark superstructure atop the three hotel towers.

Using heavy lifting strand jack technology typically used in bridge construction, the 14 heavy lifts were at the time amongst the highest strand jacking operations ever undertaken on a building anywhere in the world.
