Beca, working closely with the local design institute, helped to design HVAC document solutions appropriate to requirements and which also assisted with on-schedule procurement.
La Forêt (Shang Yuan) Residential and Commercial Complex in Beijing is a large new residential complex near the Olympic Forest Park, and built in response to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the increasing demand for quality homes in the area.
Beca was engaged to work in conjunction with a local design institute to provide mechanical and electrical design and tender documentation for the project.
The complex comprises three main residential types, which presented a challenge in terms of air-conditioning and heating requirements.
Zone A – a cluster of 176 townhouse units, each comprising two units (a ground-level apartment and an upper-level penthouse). Air-conditioning and heating was provided using independent VRV reverse heat pumps, in addition to electric floor heating for extreme winter conditions.
Zone B - 95 condominium-style apartments comprising 144 serviced apartments with roof tennis court, gym, terrace café, on-site supermarket, clubhouse, indoor swimming pool and ballroom. For the condominium apartments, reverse heat-pump split units and individual boiler/radiators were installed. For the serviced apartments and the retail complex, a central chilled-water system coupled with AHUs (Air Handling Units) and FCUs (Fan Coil Units) was recommended.
Zone C – four blocks of high rise upscale condominiums with 990 units. Split unit reverse heat pumps and electric floor heating were installed.
Beca developed a good relationship with the local design institute throughout the project, which helped to provide product quality and on-schedule procurement.
