Westfield Riccarton

Beca was involved in Westfield New Zealand's expansion, creating a distinctive but complementary retail experience with a strong lifestyle and entertainment focus.
Westfield Riccarton

The latest development at Westfield Riccarton has further strengthened the centre's position as one of the South Island's premier shopping and lifestyle destinations.

The redevelopment, completed in May 2009, showcases a stylish additional level of retail space to complement the centre's existing offer. It has added 8,200m2 to the centre's GLA and introduced:

• Some 45 new retailers including mini major operators.
• A new café-court on the upper level adjacent to the Cinemas.
• A new four level car park building, bringing the total number of car parks to approximately 2,400.
• A new 'Xtreme' cinema screen for Hoyts Cinemas.

Beca has worked with Westfield previously and was engaged to provide consulting engineering for civil, structural and building services.

The development also includes significant changes to car parking facilities with the former car parking deck converted to a new retail level. New car parking facilities were constructed on level three, while a new five-level car park building was constructed on the corner of Rotherham and Dilworth Street, linked to the main complex through bridges.

Located on a major south-eastern arterial road, the centre forms the hub of the vibrant Riccarton area. This high-profile and accessible location means Westfield Riccarton serves a catchment area of around 350,000 people.
