Power Transmission and Distribution

Bombay Opaheke HV Lines

Beca assisted with one of the largest network investment projects in the client's history to secure supply to a rapidly growing region.
Bombay-Opaheke HV Lines.

Years of planning, public consultation, negotiation, design and construction came to fruition in November 2006 with the successful commissioning of the Bombay-Opaheke HV lines and the livening of the Opaheke substation.

Beca had been engaged by Counties Power Limited to undertake design, landowner liaison and construction monitoring of two 110kV pole lines between Bombay and Opaheke, as well as associated line modifications. Particular care was required to understand landowner concerns and to minimise the impact on their properties.

One of the new lines replaced a 33kV wooden pole line originally built in the 1920s while the second line replaced an existing 33kV concrete pole line. The new 110kV lines also incuded under-slung 22 kV distribution lines.

Composition of the two new lines, 13.1km and 12.4km in length, is a blend of steel and concrete poles. These are designed to be compact structures to minimise the visual impact and physical dimensions of the line.

This was one of the largest network investment projects in the client's history. Counties Power Limited now has new high-voltage power lines installed and it's Opaheke substation operational.
